He said “I Love You”

My father died on August 22, 1989. He was the best example of a father I know. He would tell us he loved us any time, any place, in front of anyone.

One Saturday evening, I had a friend come over to my house to spend the night. As we were walking down the stairs, my dad was just coming home from work, obviously exhausted. Still, when he passed me, he stopped and gave me a hug and said, ‘Jim, I love you,’ then walked upstairs to bed.

I didn’t think anything of it. That was just typical Dad. But my friend was absolutely shocked. His father had never once said that to him.

At my father’s funeral, nearly ten years after my friend witnessed that stairway scene, he told me how much that hug in the hallway had affected his life. And then he told me that I was the luckiest guy in the world to have had a father who loved me so much. He was right!”

Happy Father’s Day

Living for Jesus, Bro. Royce

Food Pantry

On Thursday, May 24th, the Food Pantry Team distributed 87 boxes of food which served 270 people. There were 36 new families and 50 returning families.

Your response to our Food Pantry request has been wonderful and because you provided so many cans of Treet, we will not have to purchase any meat items for our June distribution. We also received many jars of Peanut Butter and with your help, we are hoping to provide Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly in June also. This will be a good source of protein for children who will be out of school for the summer. Thank you for helping those in need.

*Items needed for the food pantry for June: Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly.

Newletters: March 2012

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

Sunday, we start Revival with Dr. Mack Tester, God’s man for our church at this time in the life of our church. What is Revival? The word comes from two Latin words: Re means again and Vivo means to live again. Revival is an awakening of God’s people which causes them to become active for God. It is something that must happen in the hearts of Christians, then it will reach out to touch the unsaved for Christ. I pray that you will not let worldliness, indifference or sin hold back revival in your life. God has sent revival in other days. He can do it again. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Confess any known sin, humble yourself before Him and seek His face (2 Chronicles 7:14), then receive the blessing He has for you!! “Fill my cup, Lord, until it over flows!”

Living for Jesus, Bro. Royce

Revival: March 4-7 with Dr. Mack Tester, Pastor of Pope Drive Baptist Church in Anderson. Don’t miss this blessing. Be here every night and bring someone with you! Service times are:

Sunday morning: 8:45 am and 11:00 am

Sunday evening—Wednesday evening: 7:00 pm

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering

The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering® is much more than an offering envelope and an annual missions-giving emphasis. When people give to the offering, 100 percent of their gift will be transformed into missionary salaries and ministry supplies. Those missionaries and supplies will help others hear the message of Christ and respond in faith to His offer of salvation. Time and again our missionaries relate how the offering is their lifeblood. They know that behind each penny given, there is a Southern Baptist who believes in what they do and are affirming the need to equip them to share the gospel with those who need a Savior. (We will receive our Annie Armstrong Offering, March 11th. Our church goal is $2700.)

Food Pantry

Thanks to everyone who donated canned food items for the first food pantry. We had a wonderful group of ladies and men helping on Monday and Thursday the 20th and 23rd. We were so blessed to see so many individuals pick up their box of food on Thursday. There were 81 boxes of food given out. We wanted to show these families that we are a caring church ministering to the joys, hurts and needs of people within and beyond our church family. Food pantry needs for the month of March are: peanut butter, green beans, soup, corn, jiffy corn bread mix, tuna and treat meat. Drop in the boxes labeled around the church. Thank you for your support.

Summer Mission Trip

Our summer mission trip will be June 16-23; will be going back to Cumberland to work the Appalachian Regional Ministry. Sign up as soon as possible; the deadline will be April 22. Everyone going must attend a meeting on April 29 after the 11 am service. When serving on a mission team, we must prepare our heart, our soul and our mind for the work God has led us to do. Within our own strength, we are limited as to what we can do. Projects may seem impossible and for many they are, but if we place our faith and trust in God, He can accomplish all those things we find impossible.

Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (NKJV)

Newsletter February 2012

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

I got an e-mail from Jeff Nix yesterday: “Royce, Good morning. I am presently serving in Afghanistan and am listening to your sermons from FBCNorris Website. I hope you are doing well and I am really enjoying your messages.” He wants us to update our data base. I e-mailed him back and told him we would and that we would be praying for him.

Just when we think no one is listening or watching, God shows us they are. Many things we do we will not see the results or the influence we had until we reach heaven one day! Don’t get discouraged, keep up the good work! God is faithful! Pray for Jeff!

Looking for Leaders

Summer seems so far away, but the time is coming for RA’s, GA’s and Mission Friends. We still need teachers for Mission Friends ages 2-3 and 4-5. Think about grabbing a buddy and co-teach a class. If interested, please contact Michelle Stancil or Becky Harper. We also need RA leaders.

Camp Marietta

It’s time to start thinking of summertime fun. There will be a sign-up sheet for Camp Marietta on the vestibule table. We need to know the number of children who are interested in going. We are also inviting any of the youth who want to go. As of right now, the tentative dates for children ages 6-12 are: June 25-29; July 9-13 and July 23-27. The date for youth is July 16-20. See Olivia with any questions.

Mark your calendar for March 4-7, 2012. We will be having revival with Dr. Mack Tester leading in the services.

Medical Mission Trip

We received $504 for Hannah Washburn Rob’s medical mission trip. The money will buy medical supplies.
