BUlletin: Week of 07/28/2008

Monday, July 28th, 2008

For those who signed up for the Mexico Mission Trip, your deposit is due today. There will be a team meeting today at 5 pm in the Young Married Classroom. We have received $2527.97 toward our $3500 goal.

 

The Building/Steering Team has asked for a called Church Conference after the evening service tonight.

 

Brotherhood meal is tomorrow night in the fellowship building at 7 pm.

 

Youth meet at church at 5:00 pm, Tuesday, 29th. We will be helping the Association at the Big League World Series. Bring money for fast food.

 

Parents of Students are invited to a special breakfast this Saturday morning at 8 am. (parents only)

 

Big Youth Thing at Carowinds, August 7th; be at the church at 8 am.

 

August 9th: any students interested in Youth Praise Band, be at the fellowship hall at 1:30 pm.

 

Flora Ann Group will meet Tuesday night, July 29th at 7 pm in the fellowship building to put together back packs for Helping Hands. No meal will be served.

 

We are in need of Sunday School teachers in the Youth Department for the 2008-2009 church year. Also, ALL those who have already committed to teach next year would gladly welcome any additional help. If you are willing to serve the Lord in one of these areas, please see Steve Kimble.

 

The deacons have the responsibility of presenting to the church a list of men’s names who are qualified and are willing to serve in that ministry. They have placed a list at the front of the church. If you are not willing to serve, please mark through your name on this list and initial beside your name. If your name is not on the list and you feel you are qualified  and are willing to serve, please write in your name. Please note: if you are elected as a deacon and you are married, your wife will automatically serve on the Church Staff Recognition Team.

 

The SC Baptist Convention will be having an “Equipping People in Church Conference” on August 2, 2008 from 8:00 am-12:30 pm. There are three one-hour sessions to choose from. It covers all areas of church life. If interested in going, see the pastor.

 

Sign-up schedules for pictures for the new church directory are located in the vestibule. Please go by and check the time that will be convenient for you. Pictures will be taken August 27th—August 30th. If you are a regular attendee of our church, we want your picture in the new directory. It will not be the same without you.

 

The 100th Anniversary Commemorative plate sample is on display at the front of the church. Prepaid orders of $20.50 will be taken through Wednesday, July 30th should you wish to purchase one of these “keepsake treasures.” Please give your order and money to either Beverly Morrison or Mandy Davis by the deadline date.

Phillip and Caroline, Grayson and Micah Jewell have a new member in their family, a baby girl, Adeline Kate. She was born July 24th and weighed eight pounds and 15 ounces.

 

The newsletter for August will be mailed out Wednesday, July 30th. Please have all your information in the office by tomorrow morning. You may e-mail it to holdera@fbcnorris.org or drop it in the tray outside the church office.

The Church Council will meet today at 5 pm in the Young Married Bible Study Class.

 

A big thank you to everyone who helped in Vacation Bible School. We praise God for the 16 children who prayed to receive Christ!! A special thank you to Janie Swords and Tina Kelly for doing a great job directing VBS.

 

We need your help! The Flora Anne Group is busy working on plans for our Homecoming Celebration to be held on September 7, 2008. We need anyone who has pictures or mementos to share to give them to Kat Albertson or Susan Yates. We ask that you clearly mark on the back your name and the person(s) in the picture and/or the facts about the picture/mementos. We will carefully display your pictures and mementos in the Fellowship Building on Homecoming. We also would like any newspaper articles, old bulletins or anything pertaining to the church and ask that you clearly mark any you give as yours. We need time to fix our displays and document the information, and we will be sure to return your articles to you promptly after the celebration. Please help us gather all we can about our history.

 

It is time to start praying and see if God is calling you to go and help build our eighth church in Mexico, November 7th-16th. There is a sign-up sheet in the vestibule. Do you have your passport? To reserve your place, please give your deposit to the pastor by July 27th. The team will meet on the 27th at 5:00 pm in the Young Married Classroom. We have $2018.62 toward our $3500 goal to build our eighth building in Mexico.

 

If you have any digital photos of the mission trip, please give them to Austin.

 

Sherry Kelley Group will be meeting on July 24, 2008. We will be meeting at Los Amigos in Easley at 6:30 pm. If you need to meet at the church for a ride, please be there at 6:00 pm.

 

The Hazel Green, KY Mission Team will give their report to the church on July 27th in the evening service!

Parents of youth, you are invited to a special parent breakfast with Austin on August 2nd at 9:00.

Bulletin: Week of 07/13/2008

Aloha! Surf’s up at Outrigger Island where kids will learn to know, speak, and live God’s truth. Based on Psalm 86:11, this tropical adventure will help kids develop the stability they need to become unshakable in a world of shifting sands. Join the fun nightly, July 13-17 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. The family fun will start Friday, July 18th at 6:00 in the church, and then we’ll move outside for more Island Adventures! If you would like to help, even for one night, please see Janie or Tina.

 

During VBS, we have a need for workers in Recreation on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:50 to 8:10. Please see Janie or Tina if you can help!

 

Yes, we will be having the penny contest again this year in VBS. All the pennies given will go toward our June mission trip next year. The girls won last year. Who will win this year?

 

We will not have regular Sunday night or Wednesday night services because of Vacation Bible School.

Bulletin: Week of 07/06/2008

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

VBS crafts will be tye dying t-shirts this year. It is going to be some colorful fun. Here are some things we will need to do the project. Please leave items in the fellowship hall in the corner to the far right of the main entrance as soon as possible! (July 10)

  1. Newspapers: We are going to need about 100-125 weekday or weekend papers
  2. Storage tub lids only (with your name on it) We are going to use these lids as project trays, covered with newspaper. We will need about 40 of these. Please pick them up again after VBS.
  3. Black, 30-gallon trash bags: two large boxes (need about 70 bags). We are using these for smocks.
  4. Or you can donate money (give to Cindy Lodge) to help with the cost of zip-loc bags, rubber bands, dye stuff, t-shirts, etc.
  5. 8 oz. or 16 oz. butter tub-type containers with lids-could be from salsa, etc. We will be using these small tubs to hold four colors of dye. The kids will use large eyedroppers to move the dye from the tubs to their shirt project. (We will not be dipping into big buckets of dye!
  6. We would like to get some cardboard pieces about 12” x 16”- any thickness. Needing about 60 pieces.

Teachers, remember, if you want to dye a shirt with your class, bring a T-shirt the first day with your name printed with permanent marker inside the collar.

“Living God’s Unshakable Truth” – Outrigger Island will be an exciting adventure for ages 4 years through twelfth grade. A nursery will be provided for VBS workers. Dates: July 13-17 from 6:00-8:30 pm and Sunday Family Fun Night, 7:00 pm, July 18 for families and kids arrive at 6:00 pm.

Hospice urgently needs a volunteer to work in its Liberty Thrift Shop.
