Newletter: July 2009

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Have a great July 4th! Thanks to Dale Dalton for the following:

Cherokee Indian Youth Rite of Passage

Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth’s rite of Passage?

His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone. He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shines through it. He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he does this, he must not talk about it.

He cannot tell the other boys of this experience, because each lad must come into manhood on his own.

The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and earth and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man!

Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold.

It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him.

He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm.

We, too, are never alone. Even when we don’t know it, God is watching over us, sitting on the stump beside us. When trouble comes, all we have to do is reach out to Him.

If you liked this story, pass it on. If not, you took off your blindfold before dawn. Moral of the story: Just because you can’t see God doesn’t mean He is not there. ‘For we walk by faith, not by sight.’ “Worry looks around, Sorrow looks back, Faith looks up.

Living for Jesus, Bro. Royce

To the Mission Team of 2009 and entire church:

Thank you so much for all that was accomplished during our stay in Hazel Green. Sports team did a wonderful job with the kids. Nursing home was a HUGE success with one Salvation. Construction went well even with wasps and rain. The kitchen staff did a wonderful job keeping us fed and preparing lunch each day for the team going to Jackson. All the socks and canned fruit were greatly appreciated by the missionaries. They served 85 individuals in the food pantry on Tuesday night.

This may have been one of the greatest weeks of our life! I hope you were part of this team because you had a sense of God calling you to a deeper commitment, one that calls for you to give of your time and talent for Him. Thanks to God for your help, fellowship and dedication in serving the Lord. God is good.

Again, we thank the entire church for your support and prayers. Janie and Austin

Thank you

Church Family,

Thank you so much for the cards, prayers and memorial sent during the loss of my dad. I know his church is expanding their youth ministry and the money will be greatly appreciated. Bessie and I love the people of Norris First Baptist. The Roger Banks family

Dear Royce,

Please express to your congregation our sincere appreciation for your generous support of Honor Flight for Clyde Haynes, Walter Perry and James Smith. What a great way to say thank you to these folks for their service and sacrifices many years ago. This generation truly did save the world.

I hope as many as can will join us at GSP Airport on the evening of September 9th to welcome these heroes back home.

Thanks for all that your church family does for the community. Your work really does make a difference.

Sincerely, Tina Morgan
