We are in need of Sunday School teachers in the Youth Department for the 2008-2009 church year. Also, ALL those who have already committed to teach next year would gladly welcome any additional help. If you are willing to serve the Lord in one of these areas, please see Steve Kimble.

This morning is the last opportunity you have to add or remove your name from the list of men at the front of the church for Deacon Ministry.

Mexico Mission Team fundraiser Saturday, August 9th from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. Included are car wash, yard sale and food. Made to order pancake breakfast from 8:00 am until 10:30 am. Car wash and Yard sale beginning at 8:00 until 12:00 noon. Hot dog lunch from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Please clean out your closets and donate items for the yard sale. The Mexico Team will be serving a spaghetti supper on August 31 after the evening service.

The American Family Association is boycotting McDonald’s restaurants because of the company’s promotion of the homosexual agenda, including homosexual marriage. McDonald’s donated $20,000 to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in exchange for membership and a seat on the group’s board of directors. If you haven’t signed the petition on line, there is one in the vestibule.

On Thursday August 14th, we will be ministering to the students at Southern Wesleyan University by helping them move into their dorms. There is a sign-up sheet in the vestibule. See Austin for questions.

Acteens will meet at Julie Beth’s on Saturday, August 9th, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm. Bring your Acteen Mission Quest book, your Bible and your bathing suit for our meeting, lunch and swimming.

Sign-up schedules for pictures for the new church directory are located in the vestibule. Please go by and sign up. Pictures will be taken August 27th—August 30th. If you are a regular attendee of our church, we want your picture in the new directory. It will not be the same without you.

If you have pictures or mementos to share for our Homecoming Celebration to be held on September 7, 2008, please give them to Kat Albertson or Susan Yates. We also would like any newspaper articles, old bulletins or anything pertaining to the church and ask that you clearly mark any you give as yours. Please submit them as soon as possible to give us time to document the information, and we will be sure to return your articles to you promptly after the celebration.

Centennial Moment

In September 1946, our church approved a total budget for the new church year of $1355.00. The amount needed per month was $113.00.

In June 1948, our church voted to purchase 500 census cards for taking a religious census of the community and also for the church to conduct a study course on soul winning taught by Rev. Alfred Woolbright.

In February 1950, our church voted to give 10% of all offerings to the Cooperative Program.

In January 1951, our church voted to sponsor Vacation Bible School. For 100 years we have faithfully persevered in service for the Lord.

We will celebrate 100 years on September 7th. On that Sunday, we will be taking our regular Building Fund Offering. The Building Steering Team is challenging us for it to be the largest ever received. Will you pray and ask God what He would have you give? The building and offering will be a statement about our faith and our trust in God for the next 100 years.

First Baptist Church, Thank you all so much for all the cards, prayers, meals and visits during the recovery time after my surgery. We are blessed with such great Christian friends. Thanks again, Denise Cook
