Bulletin: Week of 08/24/2008

Copies of the proposed officers and teachers list are located in the vestibule. Please pick one up as you leave. One per family please. We will have a called-church conference next Sunday, August 31st to vote on this proposed list. The conference will include a recommendation from the Deacons to have Deacon Election the second Sunday.


Men’s Nite tomorrow (Monday, August 25th) at 7:00 pm in the fellowship building. Sign up in the vestibule.


We are in need of Sunday School teachers in the Youth Department (9th—12th grades) for the 2008-2009 church year. Also, ALL those who have already committed to teach next year would gladly welcome any additional help. If you are willing to serve the Lord in one of these areas, please see Steve Kimble.


There is a sign-up sheet in the vestibule if you would like to help in the AWANA program this year. AWANA will begin September 17th.


First Baptist Church, Norris will be celebrating our 100th year anniversary on Sunday, September 7, 2008. Services will start at 10:00 am in the sanctuary with a Centennial Historical Presentation. There will be no Sunday School. Worship Service at 11:00 am with guest speaker Dr. James Austin, Executive Director Of SC Baptist Convention. After worship service, we will have a group picture made on the front steps. We will have lunch in the fellowship building. Please bring a well-filled basket.


A note to the choir members and anyone who has ever sung in the choir or would like to sing in the choir. We are practicing on Sunday night and need you to join us. We will have a special practice on Saturday, September 6 at 2:00 pm. We would like to have a full choir for our celebration. Please come and join us and worship the Lord in song.


School is back in session. Please continue to save and donate Box Tops for Education and Nestle water bottle labels. The donation box is located just inside the door of the old church entrance. Thank you.


Sign up sheet for the YAH Jocassee Lake Tour on Oct. 11th is on the YAH bulletin board, and the deadline to sign up and pay your money is Sunday, Aug. 31st. Cost is $15 per person. Give money to one of the YAH leaders.


We will be observing the Ordinance of Baptism on August 31st at the beginning of the evening service.


The Children’s Church department needs teachers and helpers for the upcoming church year. The commitment would be teaching or helping one Sunday each month. Teachers use the provided Noah’s Ark curriculum binder for lessons and activities. Helpers assist in classroom management, crafts and bathroom breaks. There are openings in the younger class (3-5 year olds) for the 3rd and 4th Sundays. Please sign up in the vestibule or see Stephanie Thomas or Shelia Walters.


We will celebrate 100 years on September 7th. On that Sunday, we will be taking our regular Building Fund Offering. The Building Steering Team is challenging us for it to be the largest ever received. Will you pray and ask God what He would have you give? The building and offering will be a statement about our faith and our trust in God for the next 100 years.


Church Directory Team is looking for a few good pictures to use in the “activity pages” of our new directory. Please submit them by today. If you have a really good digital shot of a children’s or youth activity, GA’s RA’s, AWANA, choir, VBS, a mission trip from 2008, please submit them by e-mail to cindylodge@bellsouth.net: or if you have an actual photograph, make sure it has good color and is nice and clear. Do not write on the photo, do not submit photos that are cut with scrap booking edges. Place your photo in a zip loc bag with your name on it. We will return your photos.


Mexico Mission Team will be serving supper after the evening service on Aug 31st; donation basis only. Menu: spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert, drinks. Sign up in the vestibule.


Homecoming: We are preparing to have overflow seating for both the Centennial Historical Presentation at 10:00 am and the worship service at 11:00 am on Homecoming. The Young Married Class (old nursery) and the Choir room will be set up with monitors and will accommodate up to 75 people. As a courtesy to our invited guests and elderly, we are asking any of our younger generation to sit in the overflow seating. In addition, we will have overflow seating for our lunch. As a courtesy to our guests and elderly, we are asking our Youth, after they get their food, to exit through the front door of the Fellowship Building and to eat their meal in the basement of the Fellowship Building. This will help with the flow of the lunch line. We also are asking some of our younger generation to eat under the tents set up outside the fellowship building, weather permitting.
