A Nation’s Strength

What makes a nation’s pillars high

And its foundations strong?

What makes it mighty to defy

The foes that round it throng?

It is not gold. Its kingdoms grand

Go down in battle shock;

Its shafts are laid on sinking sand,

Not on abiding rock

Is it the sword? Ask the red dust

Of empires passed away;

The blood has turned their stones to rust,

Their glory to decay.

And is it pride? Ah, that bright crown

Has seemed to nations sweet;

But God has struck its luster down

In ashes at His feet

Not gold but only men can make

A people great and strong;

Men who for truth and honor’s sake

Stand fast and suffer long.

Brave men who work while others sleep,

Who dare while others fly—

They build a nation’s pillars deep

And lift them to the sky.

 —Ralph Waldo Emerson

Happy July 4th!

Living for Jesus, Bro. Royce

Note from Harold and Joyce Scroggins of Cumberland, KY to Mission Team

Just a quick note to let you know that the young father that was here at the block party with his son (Brian Hughes and Mathew) were at our church this morning. Pastor Royce, they were the ones who were pitching the football over near our car. Harold and I had a good conversation with them after church. Not sure what is going on in his life, but I do know that they have just moved back into the area and moved in with Brian’s mother because of losing his job. He is coming over one day to take a tour of the ministry. If you would please be in prayer for this family. Thanks to your group a life has been touched. I will keep you posted if he comes by or back to church.
