All is well

Haratio Spafford (1828-1888), a prominent, wealthy Chicago lawyer, is remembered for writing the beloved hymn “It Is Well With My Soul.”

It seems such lyrics would come naturally to someone so successful. But Spafford didn’t pen the hymn during life’s high point. Instead, the words poured forth amid tragedy.

In 1871, the Great Chicago Fire wiped out Spafford’s life savings. Two years later, his wife, Anna, and their four daughters headed to Europe on the SS Ville Du Havre, with Spafford to follow a few days later. The boat was struck by another vessel and sank, killing 226 of the 313 people on board. Although Anna survived, the Spafford girls didn’t.

After receiving the news, Spafford went to England to get Anna. While sailing over the spot where his daughters had died, he wrote the lyrics to “It Is Well With My Soul.” They’re a reminder that no matter what life brings, our souls can be at rest in God.

“When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,

When sorrows like sea billows roll;

Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say,

It is well, it is well with my soul.”

Living for Jesus, Bro. Royce

“Fulfilling the Vision”

“Fulfilling the Vision” celebration on February 13th. We will gather as a church family to celebrate God’s choosing us to build 10 buildings in Mexico. We will review the years and enjoy some good Mexican food afterwards. Don’t miss it.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

Revival

Revival, February 20-23, 2011 with Dr. Timothy Fowler. We have a wonderful church fellowship, and it is easy to get comfortable with church and our walk with the Lord. I want to ask you to do four things in preparation for revival.

1. Ask God to convict you of any sin that might be in your life, confess it at once to God. Be willing to do what is necessary to make it right. Read 1 John 1:9 and Psalm 3:5.

2. Let’s each make our own personal and private prayer list of people and burdens that we will continually bring before the Lord. Let’s pray that a lasting spiritual impact will be evident in our church and county.

3. Please clear your own personal calendar of activities for the dates, Feb. 20-23. It is our revival, and we need to plan every single service.

4. Let’s concentrate on definite individuals for whom we are burdened. Whole families may be salvaged by our direct and friendly invitations. We need a fresh touch. Bro. Royce

Thank you notes

Thanks to each person who helped with “We Love Our Community” food drive. It was a huge success. Thanks to all who shoveled snow, bought sand, unloaded the truck, packed bags of food, baked goodies, sorted and hung coats, delivered food to neighbors and others in our community. Miracle Hill Children’s home picked up the coats and 10 bags of potatoes on Monday. Thanks Tina for arranging this. Again, thanks to all! “We Love Our Community Team.”

Dear Tina and special friends at First Baptist Church of Norris:

It is such an encouragement to our ministry when good folks like you support the work of Miracle Hill Children’s Home. We appreciate all of the coats you gave for our residents. It was so thoughtful of you to remember our children and to reach out to them in this special way. Thanks again for your kindness. We are grateful for your generosity and your willingness to help meet the needs of others. Sincerely Kris Blackman, Miracle Hill Children’s Home

Dear Friends,

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your worship services last Sunday night. Thanks also for the love offering that will help us as we travel. We look forward to the opportunity to be with you again soon. In His Service, Heaven’s Echoes
