Newsletter for May 2011

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

Sunday is Mother’s Day! I hope, if your mother is still living, that you will spend some time with her and tell her how much you love her. Some of you are like me, your mother is not living.

Poet Joan Walsh Anglund called death “a thin curtain . . . less than gauze, between us.” John Taylor said, “While we are mourning the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to meet him behind the veil.”

Thanks to Jesus’ resurrection from the grave, death holds no power over God’s children. Although we still grieve lost loved ones, we are assured that they have eternal life through faith in Christ.

We can take comfort knowing that people whose earthly lives have ended are in heaven forever—and that we’ll soon celebrate with them.

Happy Mother’s Day, Bro. Royce

Congratulations!

Jane Yates, who is on the Health Ministry Team for our church, was nominated and selected by nurses from across the state to receive the prestigious Palmetto Gold Award for 2011 for the State of South Carolina. She was among the 100 nurses selected from over 69,000 nurses in the state of South Carolina. Jane is the Site Manager of the Pickens County Health Department. She and her staff piloted a new family planning initiative, targeting teens. This pilot has been presented as a “best practice” model. She also led a pilot program in which area physicians participated in a case management model to ensure medical homes for Medicaid recipients. As a result, what we know as managed care Medicaid exists. Jane has exemplified excellence in nursing practice and commitment to the nursing profession. She received this award at the annual Palmetto Gold Gala in Columbia. Congratulations to Jane for her achievements and for her faithful service to First Baptist Church Norris.

Also our congratulations go to Tina Kelly for receiving the Heart Award. The Heart Award recognizes excellence in school counseling and success promoting higher education awareness in elementary, middle schools and high schools throughout the state. South Carolina Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education has selected Tina Kelly as the Elementary Counselor recipient for 2011. She was nominated by her peer counselors in Pickens County. On May 17, Tina will be honored at a banquet at the Columbia Art Museum. She’ll receive a monetary award to help with Career Awareness. We also appreciate Tina for giving her time and talents to serve here in our church.

Thank You

Dear First Baptist Church Norris,

Thank you so much for your hospitality and generosity and for giving us such a warm welcome. The White Bible service was a very special experience, and we are glad you could share it with us. It was such a blessing to spend time with all of you. Thank you so much for all of the gifts; we are excite to use them as we start building a home together. God bless you all!

Love, Ian and Allison

Dear Church Family,

Thanks so much for the cards, calls and delicious food. What a wonderful meal you served! We are blessed to have Christian friends like all of you. May God bless each of you! The Brown Family

Norris Church Family,

Thank you so much for the food. Our family appreciated it so much! Please continue to pray for our family. Michelle, Stephanie and family. The family of Martha Jean Lusk

Dear Pastor and Saints:

I enjoyed being with you. Your fellowship around the Word was a great blessing. I have been trying to come up with the right words to say how thankful I am for the sacrifice you shared with me. As I prayed and thought about it, this came to my heart “. . .the things which were sent from you, an odor of sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God” (Phi. 4:18). I trust the Father will allow us to be together again in His timing. Enjoying Rivers of Water, C Timothy Fowler

Dear Church Family,

Thank you for the flower and gift certificate that you gave me for Administrative Assistant Day. I love working for and with you here at church. I would like to express my appreciation for your love, kindness and encouragement. Each one of you has a special place in my heart. Love in Christ, Ann

Thank you so much for the use of your Fellowship Building for Amber and Derrick’s wedding reception. Thank you again. Love, Joe and Rhonda Bracken
